Nice Mistake.
This is brilliant.
It looks as though an uppity graphic producer at New Zealands TV3 managed to play the type of prank 80's style anarchists always dreamed of. I can remember sitting around with friends thinking about all of the nifty things we would do if only we were working in the media. Of course, for the most of us, they remained just that, day dreams.
Apparently though, one like-minded individual took advantage of an opportunity to get some private propaganda out on air. Of course the company execs claim it was all just a "genuine human mistake". Since I've actually produced those types of inserts for videos, I can tell you, it probably wasn't. Someone had to produce the graphic, and the term "Professional Fascist" isn't likely to come up all that often (if at all).
Oh well, at least someone, somewhere is actively working on subverting the media.
is Marilyn Manson. At least according to the American Family Association.
Serial Killer? nope.
Drug Dealer? naah
Paedophile? not as far as we know.
Man most likely to send young men and women out to lose their lives to help line the pockets of corporate America? well, he's not from Texas so I guess that will just have to wait.
Of all the possible baddies out there to top list of biggest dangers to American Youth, the American Family Association decided to go for a scrawny dude wearing too much makeup who has a penchant for wearing mouse ears.
I'm scared.
And I guess you should be too.
If you want a chance to find out what's behind the makeup (if not the personae) you can check out mister Mansons online journal. It's buried in his website, where you will find all of the usual corporate rock kind of things, well packaged and chock full of the kind of imagery that seems to send a certain type of Calvinist howling through the streets.
And best of all, it's actually sort of interesting. This is a man who managed to take all of the negative aspects of growing up an outsider in the states, and turn them into a major money making machine. The more I learn about him, the more he reminds of people I once called friends. If nothing else, his musings make a better read than most of the other pop star pundits attempts at social relevance.
I reaaaaaaallly like William Burroughs. I especially like listening to him read his works.
I was sooo excited about the filming of Naked Lunch I even ignored the fact that the Bugmeister, David Cronenberg, was directing it.
Of course, after seeing it, I stayed away from his attempt at destroying another one of my favorites J.G. Ballard. I was certain his attempt would be all too successful.
But I digress...
Ah Pook is Here is a loverly little animation featuring incredible looking critters and of course the incredible voice of Mr. Burroughs. It's not the only film on the site though. 6 other animations grace the page. I find the Pica Towers series particularly tasty. Of course, I am a sucker for blind robots and black humor, so take my recommendations with a grain of whatever you like.
to Hunter s. Thompson for stealing his brilliant title, but it just seemed to fit.
Anyone who has spent time recording a record knows what a grueling experience it can be. Don't get me wrong, the first time I went into the studio, I was really excited. I really thought it would be one of the coolest experiences of my relatively mundane life.
A couple of weeks later I was sitting in the studio thinking I would much rather be having my wisdom teeth rmoved.
Without painkiller.
That's a musicians perspective. Well, a vocalists anyway.
Going by todays tip, it could have been much worse.
Mixerman has posted a journal about his experiences working the board for one of those bands that was lucky enough to be the object of a bidding war. They had money, time, and a really bad drummer.
It's a tale of terror told by a twiddler, full of sound and fury.....
from the typical U.S. or european new media art, is what the Java Museum promises in it's online exhibition. The latest show is LatinoNetarte and is focusd on the work of Latino artists from across the globe.
Ever notice the difference in production values between "Artists" and "Professionals"?
