March 13th: Global Stupidity
is very high. It's not yet severe, but hey this is an election year for loads of places so you can probably count on all indictaors pointing to a massive rise towards the end of the summer.
The Global Stupidity Awareness System can help you keep track of the current threat you face by global stupidity. Just copy and paste the code into your very own webpage, and you can follow the developments in real time.

Yeah I know its old. But stupidity is even older, and it doesnt show any signs of letting up.

March 12th: Apparently
Korn no longer benefit from the machinations of the international music business.

Judging by the message of the video for their song "Y'all want a single?", they have seen the folly of their ways and decided to define themselves as an underground band. The video is a couple of minutes of them smashing up a record store while interesting facts about the music industry are blended in over the footage.

Their sympathy with file sharers seems fairly obvious.

Of course, it could also be that they learned from Metallicas mistakes, and the whole thing is just an extremely cynical attempt at gathering publicity and sympathy through emotional manipulation of their fans. I guess we will just have to wait and see until the first Korn fans are charged with piracy...

Be curious to see just whose names are on the warrants then.

March 11th: Once upon a time
it was a lot of work to be different.

Of course, once upon a time it was actually possible to shock people by sticking strange objects through your earlobe. Some people were sooo shocked in fact that they felt compelled to hit you. I don't really miss those days.

Fortunately, being a cultural outcast is more than just a sum of your choice in wardrobe and music. A well stocked library can have a lot to do with it too.

In this once upon a time I mentioned earlier, getting access to certain books was a pain in the ass. Most local stores didn't have the books, asking at your local library could be a risky venture, and downloading the things from your friendly local BBS took days.

Now there is the net, and it's basically one stop shopping for all your freaky kid needs. Wanna out do the goth from across the street? Out witch the neighboorhood wiccan? Or just generally annoy everyone and their mothers with your incomplete comprehension of the gerneral theory of relatifvity?

Then Beyondwierd is just for you. Einstein, Lavey, Crowley, Burroughs...
There's a little something for everyone. Whoever did this site is probably from the south of the U.S. because they even include Darwin. That's only considered weird by bible bashers and friends of Billy Graham.

There is even a bastard version of what was supposed to be the Anarchists Cookbook (whatever you do DONT believe much of whats written in there). It actually looks like a collection of files that were added to the original on some BBSes in the eighties. Ah the memories....

So get out your notebooks, your sharpies, and an unmarked pair of jeans or canvas bags and start taking notes, cuz these things here be some deeeep waters.

March 10th: DocVoo
is most likely a loverly individual. Trouble is, DocVoo reads BoingBoing regularly. Even more troublesome is, that DocVoo knows that I read BoingBoing regularly.

DocVoo frequently makes comments about the similarity between the odd link here and on BoingBoing. Not really a problem, except for the fact that I cite BoingBoing when I find a link there.

The other trouble is that the kiddies at BoingBoing and myself seem to have similar interests. So I started checking BoingBoing AFTER I found a potential tip. Today it was too much though. Three of my candidates were on BoingBoing.

So just go to BoingBoing.

And yes I KNOW BoingBoing has been a webtip before.

sheesh

March 9th: I will never be Johnny Depp
but at least I now know which character I could have been had I been one of the figures he played in a movie.

Useful information no? If you want to find out who you could have been had you been someone other than who you are, take the test. It won't make me look as good at 30 as he did at 40, but at least I know I might have been an interesting character....

I would have rather been Captain Jack though.

March 8th: Stumbleupon
is one of the tools I have been playing with lately. It's a way of sharing links and suggestions with other people who share your interests. Sort of a cross between a blog and a social networking platform like friendster.
You can suggest sites, get suggestions, and rate or comment on site suggested by others.
I have found it somewhat usefull so far. That fact alone makes it an improvement over friendster.
Check it out. And if you need a friend there just look for me, DaddyD.
Stumbleupon.
