is the nom de net of an east coast geek gone bad. After a trip that took her from the New School for Social Research to the strip clubs of time square, she ends up Somewhere in Connecticut, documenting her life in pictures and her blog.
This tip is all about the pictures. Well one set of pictures actually.
Okay one picture.
The guy in the bunny ears gets to me, and I dont know why. Vague memories of people and places lost perhaps.
Last night I came across a link at metafilter to a video that was shown on the David Letterman show of one of G.W. Bush's campaign speeches. The speech itself wasn't all that special, but watching the teenager next to Mr. Bush struggle to stay awake was rather amusing.
Other links in the story led to David Letterman's reaction to CNN's reporting that the Whitehouse claimed that Letterman had edited the video, and that the event didn't happen as Letterman portrayed it.
Whatever.
This morning all references to the story are gone. The metafilter story and comments at least. The video is also missing.
The only thing I have found so far is a transcript of the letterman show where it was featured. That will have to do until I can track down the video again.
Update:
Unami and supercollider have been nice enough to help me out with some links to the file. Since I don't have working version of real player 10 I cant verify that it really is the right movie, but you can give it a go if you like.
The worst thing about living abroad (well, one of the worst) is having no voice in the local politics. Watching everyone else make decisions that may adversely affect your future sort of sucks. It creates a feeling a helplessness that frequently manifests itself as raging tirades in front of the television, and more often than not results in the alienation of friends and family.
Well, it's maybe not THAT bad, but I don't get invited to any dinner parties any more.
I imagine the rest of the world must feel the same way when the watch U.S. politics. Hell, I feel the same way when I watch U.S. politics and I can vote.
Some people decided they weren't just going to watch any more and have put together a webpage where the rest of the planet can take part in the democratic process. Sort of.
You can vote, you can see how others voted, you realize your votes have no meaning whatsoever and eventually watch the losing candidate take control of the U.S. government.
was one of those funky benneton photographers. Remember when the clothing manufacturer used to pride itself on it's provocative and arresting posters?
Although the times may have changed, and the current campaign is about as exciting as the 5 minutes before a movie starts, Benneton still has an active interest in exploring the boundaries of Advertising. Even if that only means they are providing artists like Margot Knight a place to work. Patronage is an ancient idea, and maybe it's not as bad as my A-S grey matter would like it to be.
The pictures she is making are pretty darn nifty, even if they aren't featured on 3 story posters.
