Dave digs the dirt, webtips and IT-memes.

When I was a kid
Just out of school, I spent some time on the road. I got stuck in New Orleans, slept on the streets of Hunstville, lived in a commune in Boulder, and spent a lot of time on other peoples sofas in various other cities. The reason I mention this, is because I was overwhelmed with memories from this time in my life when I looked at the photos done by the Polaroid Kidd.

The Kidd spent three years travelling, meeting people, and taken their pictures with a polaroid. The results are amazing, and were so intense I could almost smell them.

The photos are also perfect examples of the ancient saying, "it aint the camera, it's what's behind it". Make sure you hit the link that says Bound By Tones of Dirt and Bone.

Elchaos
Was kind enough to send me a link to a rather charming little single pane comic. It's entertaining, features the occasional duck, and has one comic about throwing rocks in the Danube. If that is reason enough to check it out, I don't know what is.

Biff
Has a rough life. I'm not certain if it's due to some kind of genetic disposition, if he's some kind of warped product of his environment, or if it's just because he's a character in a webcomic.

Whatever the case may be, the illustrations of his trials and tribulations are chuckle inducing masterpieces of the single frame comic. Sometimes, the author even includes a humorous anecdote to enhance your reading experience. All in all, The Book of Biff provides a lot of bang for your buck.

Well, it would if you had to pay for it, but you don't.

Social Networks
Don't tend to be very social. Anyone who has signed up to more than two of the things has probably been frustrated by the need to reenter all of their profile information and find their existing contacts.

Yes some sites have tried to make the experience less painful, but it just really isn't as good as it could be. A lot of people have been thinking about this problem lately, and based on my observations over the last year or so, it seems to be an issue that is snowballing along quite nicely.

Oddly enough, A VC has done a pretty good job of explaining the problem, and the comments offer some interesting links to projects trying to address the issue, like the mozilla crews The Coop. But it's really just a sip of the firehose.

For those who want to turn up the water pressure, you might like to stop by Like it Matters. There is a nice selection of posts on the subject, and it's interesting enough to have kept me on the site for at least 30 minutes.

YMMV.

Rebell.TV
Is one of those massive media conglomerates, sort of like Murdochs company, just a lot smaller. They do offer a wide selection of media, with video podcasts, audio podcasts, a print your own print section and of course a straight up blog.

All of it using the same media.

They're a clever bunch.

Anyway, you may want to look at it.
It's in German!

Twitter
Is one of those things that hasn't been a webtip, but has been made fun of by myself and a few webtip readers. It always seemed like a silly exercise in applied egotism to me.

In other words, I don't get it.

Now that might be because I'm not into texting and don't have a dynamic group of friends who can supple me with witty little insights into their lives. Or it might just be because I'm either too old or not cool enough.

Whatever the reason may be, it doesn't change the fact that I don't get it.
But I have at least tried to get it. This weekend I ran across someone who actually used it. Someone I had just added as a friend on Last.fm. This prompted me to start thinking about twitter again, and even though I couldn't find a compelling reason to use it, I did manage to think of one thing that might interest me. I thought it would be cool to be able to get our trackservice through twitter.

A quick google showed me that I was not alone in these thought, and just days before some hardy soul had actually taken the trouble to provide just such a service. It's sort of nifty.

There are some interesting articles, including one about twitter. A tale told from the perspective of a twitterverweigerer turned fan.
