A sworn-to-secrecy translator for British intelligence services tells the press about British spies in Iraq. The identity of an American spy married to a leading politician is leaked to the press. Suddenly people are talking publicly about the usually secret, shadowy world of spies.
The break with tradition has everything to do with the war in Iraq and the lead-up to it. Intelligence services are under investigation for information given on weapons of mass destruction.
