CSI, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York - writer Anthony Zuiker could not possibly have know what he was getting into when he started approaching TV companies with an idea for a series all about forensic scientists. A few years and several million dollars later, it would be fair to say that CSI has certainly had a major effect on his life. The programmes have also had an effect on the rest of us too. Today in America it would not be unusual for a lawyer to reject someone as a juror because they watch CSI; the programme has simply raised the expectations of the man in the street to levels that are just too hard, if not impossible, to satisfy. But that may not necessarily be a bad thing. What can forensic science tell us about a crime? What can it not tell us and how does the life of the real forensic scientist compare to what is shown on TV? Tune into this Saturday's Reality Check and find out [more].
