In 1956 Trinidadian calypsonian Lord Melody composed "Mama Look a BooBoo" about children frightened by their father's physical appearance. As a result of the song's popularity, he became known as the "BooBoo Man." Harry Belafonte, the "King of Calypso", recorded "Mama Look a BooBoo" during the 1950s and continued to perform it on many occasions.
Silvetti / Voyage of no Return (1978)
Argentinian born vocalist, panist, composer, arranger and producer Bebu Silvetti aka Silvetti is best known for his Salsoul disco smash "Spring rain", released in 1976. His follow up hit on Salsoul was "Sun after the rain" (by the Salsoul Strings). Shortly after, Silvetti moved to Sire records where he recorded "Voyage of no return". During his long and prolific career, he produced, arranged, and composed for a wide variety of Latin and international artists, including: Placido Domingo, Paul Anka & Engelbert Humperdinck.
King Nando / Funky Shingaling (1968)
Fernando "King Nando" Rivera the guitarist and singer from El Barrio famous for his shing-a-lings, captivated audiences all over the world with his funky latin boogaloo sound. Latin boogaloo burst onto the scene in 1966 and made overnight stars of many of the young musicians in El Barrio and in the clubs throughout the New York area. There were many popular Boogaloo bands including Joe Cuba, Joe Bataan, the Lebron Brothers, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers and King Nando.
Tommy Stewart / Bumb & Hustle Music (1976)
Funky disco producer Tommy Stewart created on the Abraxas label some of the scarcest and most sought after disco records around. He released an album in his own name, which is now one of the all-time rarest disco albums. It's an essential rare groove album - if you can afford it. It includes the tracks "Bump and hustle music", "Riding high" and "The Fulton County line".
Emilio Santiago / Nega Dina (1975)
Taken from 'Emilio Santiago', the stunning debut album from singer Santiago. With its unmatched line up of great musicians and fantastic songs, this is quite simply one of the best and funkiest albums to come out of Brazil in the 1970s. Since then the former law student Emilio Santiago has been an institution in brazilian music.
Derrick Harriott / Black Skinned Blue Eyed Boys (1982)
Reggea-based "Black Skinned Blue Eyed Boys," by Derrick Harriott, is a cover as well, translating the Equals' 1970 single (featuring Eddy Grant) into a bottom-heavy half-organic/half-electronic churner. Although Derrick Harriott, born Kingston, Jamaica, is a popular pioneer of ska and rock steady, it has always seemed that he's been a bit underrated. His music took totally different directions, still espousing black awareness but in a completely uncompromising and back to basics manner.

Long may you run - Zum 60.

Norken - Our memories of Winter - in the mix
