Happy Birthday Dave Brubeck! The legendary jazz pianist and "Take Five" and "Unsquare Dance"-composer is celebrating his 85th birthday on December 6th and is still on tour. Don't miss the incredible Dave Brubeck live in concert on November 18th at the Stadtsaal in Hörsching/OÖ, November 19th at the Congresscenter Villach and on November 28th at the Konzerthaus Vienna.
  Willie Bobo & the Bo-Gents / How can I say Goodbye (1971)
Take from Willie Bobo & the Bo-Gents record "Do what you want to do", this outstanding record is apparently a bit of a rarity, but if you ever see it around, don't blink, buy it. It's the closest thing to a straight funk album that you've ever heard from the prolific conga-player Willie Bobo. The vocal track, "How Can I say Goodbye", may take a minute to grow on you. But have faith, it will. The voice, which will perhaps initially strike you as borderline loungey, drips and oozes it saccharine sweetness all over the beat, until the whole mess becomes like a savory tub of sugar-free pudding. You know you're not supposed to like it, but you do.

District of Columbia / Hail to the Teeth (1977)
Since the name Salsoul is a combination of the words 'Salsa' and 'Soul' it's about time they actually did a release which concentrates on the Latin side of the label! Taken from the new Salsoul-mega-sampler "Latin Funk Flavas", that is chock-full of ultra-rare Salsoul gems, the majority of which have been long unavailable and unissued since their original release. We're talking about ultra-ultra-rarities like District Of Columbia's outstanding "Hail To The Teeth".
  Isaac Hayes / Give it to me (1974)
Taken from the "Truck Turner" soundtrack album, composed by oscar-winner Isaac Hayes, the man that brought us the fantastic "Shaft" in 1971. In 1974 Hayes scored and also starred in two other blaxploitation classics "Tough Guys" and "Truck Turner". In this movie Hayes plays Mac "Truck" Turner, a bounty hunter out to clean up the streets and mess up the pimps.

Gary Criss / Rio de Janeiro (1978 ­original Richie Rivera 12" version)
Another Monster Salsoul disco classic! Long before his legendary Salsoul recordings Gary Criss was the lead singer of The Glass Bottle. The group had one charting hit (Billboard #-36) in 1971. When his one and only album for Salsoul was released in 1978 disco was in full swing. The first 12" single was the title track "Rio De Janeiro." With its warm and inviting strings and percussion producer Billy Terrell and arranger John Davis created a masterpiece that has withstood the time.

Monster mit menschlichem Antlitz
"Paradise Now", der demnächst österreichweit startende, vielfach preisgekrönte und äußerst umstrittene Film von Hany Abu-Assad über zwei zu Selbstmordattentätern auserkorene Jugendfreunde, wurde diese Woche im Rahmen der jüdischen Filmwoche (und unter heftigem Protest der israelitischen Kultusgemeinde) gezeigt. Der Niederländer Bero Beyer, der zusammen mit Abu-Assad das Drehbuch geschrieben und den Film mitproduziert hat, erklärt seine Beweggründe dafür, erstmals eine Art Charakterstudie zweier "normaler" Terroristen zum Angelpunkt eines Spielfilm-Plots zu machen.

Two of the hottest leftfield dance artists from Norway, Hans -Peter Lindstrøm and Thomas M. Hermansen (aka Prins Thomas), joined forces for the release of this CD on Eskimo Records.

Lindstrøm is rapidly becoming one of the biggest new names on the electronic dance circuit, with a string of highly regarded EPs under his belt, including the recent underground smash "I Feel Space". Often working alongside fellow Norwegian Prins Thomas, he's remixed artists for labels from Wall of Sound to Clone and Kingsize and no remix package is complete these days without one of his analogue-heavy, Italo-esque reworkings.

Prins Thomas has made a name for himself as the remix king from Norway, working the likes of Kango's Stein Massiv, Martini Bros, Flunk, Diskodans, Bermuda Triangle and Jackmaster Dahle amongst a host of other tip top names from the underground as well as releasing his own music on Feedelity and Rong Music.

Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas joined forces in 2003, after mutual admiration and inspiration of each others productions. Lindstrøm as muso-wizard and Prins Thomas as the nu-skool remix-champ. They both have a background from different Norwegian, and rather admittedly shameful, band-projects; ranging from punk to gospel via country to heavy metal to folk and psychedelia but they also share the same passion for collecting records and run their own labels Feedelity, Full Pupp and Tamburin from their Scandanavian liar. Besides working on various solo-projects, their main priority is their joint venture into the ever-expanding outer limits of futuristic disko and universal boogie! They both DJ, as well as performing a semi-live laptop-set which will be seen on a full world wide tour this autumn.

  The Oslo-based producer/DJ Lindstrøm has been releasing tracks through Feedelity (the label he formed himself in 2003) and Steve 'Fella' Kotey's like-minded Bear Funk imprint, garnering international acclaim which has recently seen him remixing the likes of LCD Soundsystem, The Juan McLean, Chicken Lips and Alden Tyrell. Now alongside Prins Thomas the duo unleash their highly anticipated debut long-player on the label that has given us defining mix CDs from The Glimmers, Optimo, Recloose, Rub N Tug, Headman, Ivan Smagghe and most recently Chromeo.

Featuring Italo, funk and disco-influenced productions alongside the production spark genius that defined those lost halcyon releases of the post disco/punk era circa '78-'84 Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas provide us with lush basslines, sublime melodies and rolling rhythms that cascade like snowflakes being hit by harsh early-morning sunlight - icy, but with a heart bursting with pure emotion. Throughout you can find the experimental energy of the continental space-disco of the Eighties which the pair still adore: melodic, synth-heavy and Moroder-esque, with arpeggiated basslines set to proto-house 4/4 grooves.
So stick it on and wrap yourself up in the basslines and melodies of Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas's sublime norse code.
