Max Woiski Sr. / Nescafe Calypso (1959)
Taken from the album "Popshopping Vol. 1". During the 60's & 70's, advertisers were coming up with some innovative ideas to market their products. One of these was the production of flexi discs that contained pop music that also advertised the product. "Popshopping 1" brought together these highly collectable, incredibly rare and fantastically groovy tunes from german commercials.

When the Blackbyrds were formed, Blair, along with other members of the band, had several of his songs recorded by the group on Fantasy Records. Amongst his biggest tunes was the song 'Walking In Rhythm' in which he gained recognition throughout the music industry. In 1978, came a solo album entitled 'Nightlife'. Jorge Ben / Pulo, Pulo (1975)
Jorge Ben music holds a unique role in the Brazilian scene, due to the merging of new elements in his swinging mix and to the way he plays the guitar, revealing his appreciation of soul music and north-American funk, yet incorporating the influence of African and Arabian music, legacy of his Ethiopian mother. His vocal and instrumental riffs had great influence over the sambalanço ("swinging samba") trend, developing into a style to be followed, and therefore assembling numerous fans and rip-offs. Ben¹s songs like "Mas Que Nada" have been re-recorded over and over, and he has been praised by many of the new generations big acts. In 1989 he changed his name from Jorge Ben to Jorge Ben Jor.

Taken from the LP "Stranded", released in 1975, Tierra's second effort was a more commercial, marketable product, took the group to a softer style with great love songs like "My Lady" and to Americas first, original bilingual rendition of the classic Everly Bros. hit "Let It Be Me". Also on the LP is the still popular and very danceable "Baila, Simón" one of Tierra's most requested recording in their long, and glorious history as one of East L.A.s most popular Urban Rock groups of the 70s and 80s.

"Roots Controlled Loopholes"
by The Headcracker - Digital Ninyos
