Sabu Martinez / Afro Temple Introduction (1973)
Born in New York, Sabu was recognized as a virtuoso percussionist at a young age. Playing for the major Latin and be-bop names as a teenager, it was not long before he teamed up with Art Blakey and created astounding African and Afro-Latin jazz. With his own group he recorded the two wildest "exotica" records ever. Sabu died in 1979, of a gastric ulcer at the age of 49. He was neither the first nor the last jazz-conga virtuoso, but he may well have been the best.

Brooklyn Express / You Need A Change Of Mind (1982)
A very much sought-after 12-inch classic! A cover of the original by Eddie Kendricks, very little is actually known about this group. This track was released in 1982 on BC records and is the best they have had to offer to date, and a real rarity.

Doris / Did You Give The World Some Love Today, Babe? (1970)
Very, very rare swedish recording from 1970! One of the best tracks ever recorded in Sweden, the whole album is actually fantastic! This LP marks the highlight in the career of a talented Nordic blond vocalist - Petula Clark wanna-be Doris Svensson from Gothenburg.

Third World / Lagos Jump (1983)
The curiously (poorly) named, "Third World" Jamaican pop-reggae band takes you back in time to a period when Lagos was a vacation destination on the track "Lagos Jump." Released on the "All the Way Strong" (LP, 1983), the track became an instant favorite in their native Jamaica, internationally & especially in Nigeria.

Walter Wanderley / The Flame (1967)
The most successful instrumentalist of the bossa nova movement, Walter Wanderley had a huge Top 40 pop hit with "Summer Samba," from his Verve album, "Rain Forest". Although he had hits in Brazil from the early 60s on, Wanderley (pronounced "Von-der-LAY") was at the tail end of the bossa nova wave for U.S. audiences. Like Sergio Mendes, he eventually emigrated to San Francisco and adapted to the changing musical times, experimenting with fusion beginning in the early 1970s. Ten years after his death from cancer, Wanderley was rediscovered by a new generation of lounge fans, and many of his recordings have since been reissued on CD.

Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson / Angola, Louisiana (1978)
Taken from the album "Secrets". Born in Chicago but relocated to Tennessee for his early years, Gil Scott-Heron spent most of his high-school years in the Bronx, where he learned first-hand many of the experiences which later made up his songwriting material. Encouraged at the end of the '60's to begin recording by legendary jazz producer Bob Thiele, Scott-Heron released his 1970 debut, "Small Talk". Though his jazz-based work of the early '70's was tempered by a slicker disco-inspired production, Scott-Heron's message was as clear as ever on the Top 30 single "Johannesburg" and the number 15 hit "Angel Dust", also released on his album "Secrets".

FLOTATION TOY WARNING LIVE
