Enoch Light & The Light Brigade / Bond Street (1969)
Taken from the the ultra rare album "Spaced Out". Enoch Light was a popular bandleader of the '40s and '50s who is best known for his Persuasive Percussion and Provocative Percussion albums of the mid-'50s, which were some of the first albums to exploit the capabilities of stereo recording and 35mm film as a recording devise. One of the most notable features of these albums were their "ping-pong stereo," which featured the music jumping from the left speaker to the right, and vice versa.
Bobby Womack / Everything's Gonna Be Alright (1975)
From Bobby's 1975's masterpiece album "Safety Zone", here the great singer/songwriter experiments with Norman Withfield-like funky psycho-soul, just as the Temptations, The Undisputed Truth and Curtis Mayfield were doing at this time.
Solar Plexus/ Smackwater Jack (1973)
Odd Swedish jazz-rock band that took a very unusual approach to fusion on their second album, named "Solar Plexus 2". Most of their work consists of cover versions like Carole King's "Smackwater Jack", or is somehow adapted to the work of others - like "Spider," which is based on a poem by Norman Mailer!
Doris Duke / Woman Of The Ghetto (1975)
Taken from Doris Duke's very last released album "Woman". Between Doris Duke's handful of solo-albums (1969-1975), this was probably not her most popular but there's one strong cuts to mention: the absolutely smokin' cover of Marlena Shaw's "Woman of the Ghetto". Doris Duke had one of the finest deep soul voices of all time. The former session singer recorded in Philadelphia with the legendary production team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff.
Alcione / Acorda Que Eu Quero Ver (1975)
Alcione Nazaré is one of the greatest female sambists. She was born in São Luís son of a military police maestro and at the age of thirteen, she began to sing in college parties. In 1975 she recorded her first LP "A Voz do Samba".
Bohannon & Carolyn Crawford / Me And The Gang (1978)
Taken from Bohannon's terrific dance album "Summertime Groove". Hamilton Bohannon has an immediately recognizable sound that announces itself from the first strains of his songs: furiously riffing guitars, repetitive chants and pounding drum tracks that never, EVER, deviate from their established pattern. Bohannon got his big break when he was invited to join Stevie Wonder's band after a chance meeting in the 1960s.
